The serious road accident occurred on Thursday, March 28, on the R518 in the Waterberg district of Limpopo. The bus, which was carrying 46 people, including the driver, was traveling from Botswana to Limpopo, and the people were to arrive at a service, organized on the first day of the Catholic Easter.

From the first investigations, it seems that the driver may have lost control of the steering wheel, for reasons still unknown. At that moment, the means of public transport fell from the bridge, from about 50 meters and ended up in a ravine.

“The driver lost control of the car and hit the security barriers on the bridge. The bus fell from the bridge and hit the ground, where it caught fire. The incident resulted in the death of 45 people”, announced the Ministry of Transport.

Later, the bus caught fire, notes Sky News. 45 people died, the only survivor being an 8-year-old child. The minor miraculously escaped alive, but suffered numerous injuries. He was found by the authorities and transported to the hospital.

“Some corpses are unrecognizable”

On-site searches are still ongoing. According to law enforcement officers, the images are shocking. “Some bodies are unrecognizable, others are stuck under the wreckage, and others are embalmed on the spot”the authorities said.

Just a day ago, another terrible bus accident took place in Germany. Five people died and 20 others were injured after the bus they were traveling in overturned on a motorway near Leipzig.

In total, 53 passengers and two drivers were in the vehicle. The coach was going to Munich, and the tragedy occurred between Wiedemar and Schkeuditzer Kreuz. Several ambulances and helicopters were requested in the area to take the injured.

Following the tragedy, the Minister of Transport sent a message of condolences to the families of the dead. “My thoughts are with the relatives of the deceased and the injured. I would like to thank the many emergency services at the scene who provided quick help”said Martin Dulig.
