The president of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), deputy George Simion, announced in Bistrita, who are the candidates of the formation he leads for the presidency of the Bistrita-Nasăud County Council and the Bistrita City Hall, validated by the National Leadership Office of the AUR Party.

Senator Ovidiu Florean will run for the presidency of the County Council, and Rodica Dobraniș, businessman, former candidate for the same position in 2020, then from the Free People’s Party (POL), will enter the race for the seat of mayor of Bistrița.

“In Romania, in the opinion of AUR and 30 other formations with whom we consulted last night, a coup d’état is taking place, a coup that is in full swing. That is why we are thinking of taking all the necessary steps to block the current coalition. We no longer have the People’s Advocate, we no longer have a Constitutional Court. Access to political life is almost impossible for people who want to run for or hold public office. In addition to the enormous threshold of signatures required for a candidate to enter the electoral competition, the election of mayors and presidents of CJ is still done, undemocratically, in a single round. AUR is a political force created specifically to fight democratically with the parties that, in our opinion, have so far misled the country. At the moment when the party I lead had every chance to win free, democratic elections, the current Klaus Werner Iohannis regime, with the two components PSD and PNL, took a decision against the Constitution, the rule of law, that of the local elections with the European Parliament elections, to create chaos and disorder in the country, in every locality just to prevent us from coming first in these elections”, said George Simion in a press conference.

The AUR leader said that the party he represents could have considered boycotting the elections, but will not do so.

“I arrived in Bistrita-Năsăud county to publicly announce that, in the event that the coup d’état continues, we will also compete in the local elections. We don’t make any kind of arrangements, behind the scenes games, we don’t make counters – here in Bistrita it was the Cooperativa – that’s not why we were formed and we give the chance to those who want to fight with the current leaders from the Bistrita City Hall and from the presidency of the County Council to do it Parliamentary political parties have learned to clap, to put a weaker candidate there in order to put the one who has to win elsewhere. I received offers also here in Bistrita-Năsăud county, as in other counties, but I don’t get dirty. I have no other wealth than honor, honor, and as long as we are allowed to run for some elections, as long as there is theoretically multi-partyism, I want to give the chance to some people to run and fight properly. That’s why the election of the National Leadership Office of the AUR Party for Bistrita City Hall and the presidency of CJ Bistrita-Năsăud are two people who don’t get along with the arrangement, with the local bosses. Whether it will be good or not, I don’t know. This is the attitude of our party, we do not participate in arrangements and we do not like the arrangement that can be seen from a post office here in the county: you remain the mayor of the municipality and I put a candidate who does not exist and you do not bother me in the presidency of the CJ. (…) I apologize, but the doctor (actually manager – no) from the County Hospital is probably recommended by his professional experience, but he is only put in place to mimic the electoral competition. Whether I am a good politician or not, the voters will appreciate it. What I want to leave behind is the fact that I fought,” said George Simion.

Senator Ovidiu Florean said that his goal is to bring “harmony to the CJ in such a way that all the people who work there in the interest of the citizens work with love, in a favorable and healthy environment”. He criticized both the incumbent president and the PNL candidate.

Before addressing those present and Rodica Dobraniș, the president of the AUR said that he would have liked to find candidates for most of the town halls of municipalities and county seats “entrepreneurs, people who have done something for their company, their family and who can do something and for the community”: “We are tired of the kind of individuals who have never worked a day in their lives, never paid a salary and are running this country. We didn’t succeed everywhere we ran. It’s a totally unequal battle that we’re gearing up for, the equivalent of David’s fight against Goliath. A party that is not with the system, even if it produces mayors, remains without them. The system buys them piece by piece because they don’t get money from anywhere and they are forced, if they want to do something, to change their political color. USR, out of a hundred mayors it had, if it still has 20. Most were bought piecemeal by the PSD”.

Rodica Dobraniș said that she accepted the offer of the AUR team and George Simion because she sees that, for some time, “a unique party has been born in Romania, the Romanian merged party, which endangers democracy in Romania”: “At the moment of face, democracy is seriously damaged, and the opposition must exist in any form. I have Senator Ovidiu Florean by my side, we are a strong team. We can’t wait to take the City Hall and the CJ”.

George Simion announced that AUR will submit complete lists for county and local councilors in all communes and cities. So far, 75% of the mayoral candidates have been confirmed, including Ioan Vrâncean, the mayor in office from the PSD side of Josenii Bârgăului commune, who was no longer supported for a new mandate by social democrats.

According to the AUR leader, the local government programs will be exposed at the launch event of all candidates.
