Cosmin Mladin, the alleged leader of cigarette smuggling, caught driving drunk

I PLOW. Cosmin Mladin, the one who became known in 2021 as the alleged leader of cigarette smuggling, following the large-scale actions of DIICOT, was caught drugged behind the wheel. It happened in the afternoon of April 9, on Calea Radnei in the municipality, but because he refused to be tested with the police devices, he was taken to a medical unit for the collection of biological samples. And the result was positive for drug consumption on April 26. Mladin was said to be behind the wheel of his Ferrari car, which had been impounded following searches in 2021.

About what happened, the Police Inspectorate of Arad County communicated the following:

“On April 9 this year, around 6:40 p.m., as part of an action, the police officers of the Road Bureau stopped a car driven by a 37-year-old man from Arada, on Calea Radnei. At the time of the stop, the man refused to be tested with the devices provided, being taken to a medical facility for the collection of biological samples. On April 26 of this year, the Road Bureau received the bulletin with the results of the analyses, showing that the man was under the influence of psychoactive substances. Considering these aspects, a criminal file was drawn up, regarding the commission of the offense of driving under the influence of psychoactive substances, and the results of the analyzes and the fact that there is a file will be communicated to the person concerned as soon as possible criminal, at the same time, that until the completion of the case, he has the right to drive suspended.”

Cosmin Mladin became known following the raids coordinated by DIICOT, on July 13, 2021, which targeted 157 locations in the municipality of Arad and in 8 other counties, at an organized criminal group, specialized in cigarette smuggling and money laundering . According to information at the time, Cosmin Mladin disappeared, however, just two hours before the police knocked on his door. He was later placed under national prosecution, DIICOT issuing a warrant of preventive arrest in absentia in his name. Finally, Cosmin Mladin was found on July 23, 2021 in a building in Arad and taken into custody. In December of the same year, Mladin was placed under house arrest, after the authorities replaced his pretrial detention.
