The maximum capped gas price will not be reduced below the value of 0.31 lei/kWh (319 lei/MWh), but the currently proposed legislative adjustments, once adopted by the Government, will lead to a decrease in the actual price paid by to the population starting on April 1.

Currently, household customers pay the lower of the contract price, the maximum capped price and the sum of the acquisition cost and the fixed supply margin plus network charges and taxes. In this last chapter, the change appears.

“We have in the interministerial approval an optimization of Ordinance 27, the compensation-ceiling scheme. The maximum ceilings for the final customer, the Romanian at home and the Romanian companies are not changed, but the ceilings applicable to producers are changed.

Gas and electricity prices will be changed from 1 April. How much will we pay in bills?

This means that suppliers will have access to cheaper electricity and gas and will then be able to sell it to the population below the ceiling, in a competitive regime.

And we expect that, in the coming months, as these decreases are reflected in the supplier’s acquisition cost, we will also see lower invoices for Romanians and Romanian companies. This is our objective”, said Sebastian Burduja, on Antena 3 CNN.

At the moment, Romanian gas producers are obliged to provide gas for population consumption at the price of 150 lei/MWh, and the supplier’s fixed margin of 12 lei/MWh.

From April 1, according to the draft GEO amending the capping legislation, the price of 150 lei/MWh drops to 120 lei/MWh and the supply component increases from 12 to 15 lei/MWh, writes Money.

“What is important is how much it costs per kilowatt-hour, so the costs being lower, Romanians will certainly feel this in their bills.

Therefore, from April 1, there is every chance that the final price paid by the population will decrease, thanks to the decrease in the price of gas from domestic production sold by Romanian producers to suppliers for household consumption.

“If you look at the stock market, at the free markets and at the international level and in Romania, you will see a downward trend, but that was within the ceilings that we apply to producers. We are now below these ceilings and trying this optimization.

They want lower prices

Romanians who are not satisfied with the price they have on their invoice can, very easily, change their supplier and go towards the best offer.

There is an IT module on the ANRE website through which I can compare all the offers in the market and I recommend them to find the best supplier for them”, said Sebastian Burduja.

The new values will be valid for one year starting from April 1, 2024, so the conditions are created that, in the absence of unforeseen situations, the gas price will be lower next winter than this winter.

The exact price, however, will be difficult to calculate, considering the fact that the price of stored gas also enters into the equation.

We have the last approvals to take and to enter the normative act in the Government meeting.
