Three farmers from the area of ​​Secusigiu, Arad, where dozens of deer and other wild animals were found dead in the field in recent weeks, were fined by the Environmental Guard for possessing dangerous substances without authorization, and criminal charges were also filed.

“Regarding the death under suspicious conditions of some wild animals of the deer species – 38 pieces, rabbits – two pieces and a fox, between March 6 – 25, 2024, commissioners from the National Environmental Guard – Arad County Commissariat, together with agents from the Arad County Police Inspectorate – Weapons, Explosives and Dangerous Substances Service, checks at economic agents from UAT Secusigiu, economic agents that carry out the activity of cultivating cereals, leguminous plants and auxiliary activities for vegetable production.

As a result of the checks, it was found that three economic agents did not have regulatory documents, the storage of dangerous substances was carried out improperly and there were no signed contracts with operators authorized to collect waste. Sanctions were applied according to the legal regulations and criminal reports were submitted”, the Arad Environmental Guard informed on Tuesday.

According to the cited source, “the activity of the three economic agents was prohibited until the environmental authorization was obtained”.

The representatives of the institution specified that the activity of the farmers was stopped only in terms of the possession and use of dangerous substances, until it becomes legal, and the fines applied are a total of 80,000 lei.

In addition to the animals found dead in the Secusigiu area, in February, approximately 40 deer bodies were found in fields in the Curtici, Nădab and Olari areas. The Environmental Guard reported on February 27 that it also found rodent control products on the respective agricultural lands.

“Following the checks carried out, it was determined that the raticide baits should be collected immediately, and the use of raticide products should be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the authorization certificates. A quantity of 1,325 kg of animal waste was handed over for neutralization by incineration. Sanctions in the amount of 120,000 lei were applied, and the criminal investigation bodies opened two criminal files in rem”, the Environmental Guard announced, and later the County Police Inspectorate said that investigations are being carried out for game poaching.
