From what was reported by the newspaper La Sentinella, it appears that the Romanian man arrived in a serious condition at the hospital on the morning of Thursday, March 21, 2024, after suffering a severe septic shock, which is assumed to have occurred as a result of an infection caused by a violent attack on him.
Despite the doctors’ efforts to save his life, Costel died after a few hours, amid a situation that immediately triggered investigations by the Chivasso carabinieri.
In the absence of visible gunshot wounds, investigators are following the lead of a possible manslaughter case, if it turns out that the man was assaulted.
Details about the circumstances of the attack are still unclear, but the Ivrea Prosecutor’s Office, under the guidance of prosecutor Daniele Piergianni, has opened an investigation to gather more information.
It is suspected that the Romanian man was attacked in the central square of Villareggia, most likely in the morning of Wednesday, March 20, although no witnesses have confirmed the incident.
Local shopkeepers and the owner of a bar in the area noticed the victim’s face was swollen and his eyes were swollen shut, but neither had information about any violent altercation in the area.
Speculation suggests that the 54-year-old Romanian, who worked occasionally in the area, was also assaulted on Monday, but did not seek immediate medical help and his health situation worsened later due to an infection that led to the shock septic.
