A legendary phone, the Nokia 3210, returns 25 years after its launch, when “dumbphones” become more and more popular

It’s the mobile phone that defined an entire generation. And now, 25 years after the launch of the original, the legendary Nokia 3210 returns and is available in colors reminiscent of those days: “Scuba Blue”, “Grunge Black” and “Y2K Gold”. The phone is created by European innovators Human Mobile Devices (HMD), makers of Nokia phones.

“Dumbphones” (phones with buttons and basic functions) are starting to become popular again as people look to return to the simplicity of yesteryear. In 2023, sales of the Nokia 2660 Flip flip model doubled, and those at HMD expect a sustained increase in classic phone sales in 2024.

These devices are a solution to digital detox in a world where almost four in ten 16-24 year olds (38%) are concerned they are spending too much time on smartphones .

“The Nokia 3210, an iconic phone, returns amid a global explosion in dumbphone popularity as consumers seek a balance between screen time and digital detox. The core of the philosophy behind the Nokia 3210 is simplicity, which gives users the space to be fully present in reality. In fact, forget the term «dumbphone»; this is the “fun phone” of 2024.”

Lars Silberbauer, CMO of Human Mobile Devices (HMD)

The Nokia 3210 was launched a quarter of a century ago and quickly became a success, connecting millions of people. In 2024 it returns, but this time the goal is to disconnect people from their screens.

“The original Nokia 3210 holds a very special place in the hearts of many consumers as the best-selling mobile phone of all time. It is the perfect product to breathe new life into the modern era, with an impressive history as well as an iconic design. The Nokia 3210 is considered one of the most important mobile phones in history and was loved by many people, many of whom had this model as their first mobile phone. It’s a modern spin on this classic design that comes with celebrating a quarter of a century since the original’s launch, and it’s sure to turn heads.”

Ben Wood, Founder of the Mobile Phone Museum

The relaunch of this iconic model comes at the perfect time: the popularity of classic phones has increased greatly in recent years, as more and more young people switch off and join the digital detox movement.

So those who want to disconnect from social media, the internet in general and the never-ending list of apps (be it for a day, a weekend or indefinitely) can now do so in style. 90 or early 2000s.

Updated for new generations, the reimagined Nokia 3210 features a retro yet elegant design. It comes with all the essential features you’d expect from a classic phone, including a 2MP camera with flash (which I’m sure can also be used as a flashlight) and a 1450mAh battery2 that doesn’t end when you’re in the middle of a summer party. And because it’s 2024, the new Nokia 3210 model comes with 4G for crystal clear calls.

Just like the early 2000s, the Nokia 3210 has every chance of becoming everyone’s go-to accessory this festive season. Festival goers won’t just choose it for its robustness and unpretentious functionality. But also because they want to make a serious fashion “statement”.

The Y2K trend continues to grow, and in line with all things late 90s and early 2000s, the 3210 is available in three bold colors reminiscent of those days: ‘Scuba Blue’, ‘Y2K Gold’ and “Grunge Black”.

The Nokia 3210 wouldn’t be the same without the Snake game. For all those who have been training their fingers waiting for this moment, ready to let your friends know and see who can reach the highest score.

The phone costs just 349 lei and will be available at online retailers soon
