The Samsung EP-T5020 50W Super Fast Charging Adapter is the latest addition to the range of fully optional genuine Samsung chargers that you’ll have to choose from when you find that it’s missing from your newly purchased phone or tablet.
Samsung already offered the Samsung Trio EP-T6530 adapter, with a power of 65W and enough ports to charge three devices simultaneously (at powers between 15W and 25W per-device), available at the official price of 59.9 euros. So it is worth asking the question why you would also need a Samsung Duo adapter, with two charging ports and a maximum power of 50W (for a single connected device) at an even higher price of 69.9 euros?
None of the adapters mentioned above come, at the specified price, with a USB-C cable in the package. So to enjoy charging speeds higher than 25W (that’s what the USB-C cable included in the Samsung device package supports) you’ll have to spend a few more euros to purchase an optional cable certified for 45W power or more.
Beyond the original Samsung accessory tag, the EP-T5020 is no different than other AC adapters from recognized accessory brands, some offering even faster charging speeds at possibly half its price.
The Samsung EP-T5020 uses the PD/PPS charging standard and is guaranteed to work seamlessly with any compatible device from the South Korean manufacturer’s catalog. But if you’re thinking of buying a Samsung AC adapter just for the good reputation of this electronics brand, know that its operation at the charging speeds listed on the label is not guaranteed in the company of devices made by other manufacturers, even if they support the PD protocol /PPS. In practice, the probability that Samsung adapters will switch to a compatible mode (limiting the charging speed), or refuse charging is quite high. Problems can also arise when using USB-C cables signed by other accessory manufacturers, if they do not pass the automatic checks made for safety reasons when connecting the charging device.
Likely like the better-rated Samsung Trio adapter, the price of the new Duo adapter will drop fairly quickly, making it a good alternative to Samsung’s 45W adapter with a single charging port.
