Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter today – the biggest holiday of Christianity

Orthodox Christians today celebrate Holy Easter – the feast of light, considered the greatest feast of Christianity, which signifies the Resurrection of the Lord.

Holy Easter is preceded by a long period of fasting, and in the last week of Great Lent, called Passion Week, the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem is celebrated.

On the eve of Easter, Christians prepare their basket with goodies and go to the consecration of the pieces, and in the morning of this day, everyone washes their cheeks with a white and a red egg. This ritual symbolizes power and purity. At the same time, believers break red eggs, which signify new life, received through the Blood of the Savior.

The Easter holiday continued to represent, for each individual and for all of humanity, a transition, both from death to life, and from the slavery of sins to the state of freedom of God’s sons.

The transition from evil to good, from sin to virtue is made through continuous perseverance on the part of man, helped by divine grace, for the purification and transformation of the soul, for the abandonment of passions and the acquisition of purity of heart.

The way of celebrating Easter has been different over time, although in essence it has been preserved as in the first centuries. For the Christians of the first centuries, the Resurrection of the Lord was the greatest event in the history of our salvation, which is the foundation of the Church
