After finding the battery to charge much slower after updating to OneUI 6.1, Galaxy S23 users are now complaining that the same update adds other issues to the user experience. It seems that the new update could add problems with fingerprint unlocking on last year’s flagship models, a problem we also noticed in the Galaxy A55 review, but not on the Galaxy S24 models.

After complaining that the phones have a harder time charging after the update to OneUI 6.1, Galaxy S23 users are reporting problems with the fingerprint sensor

On the OneUI subreddit, users are complaining about their Galaxy S23 phones not responding to unlock commands right away. It seems you have to wait a few seconds or try twice for the fingerprint sensor to “activate” to be used to unlock the screen. This problem affects both the main series S23 models with ultrasonic sensors, as well as the S23 FE, which was launched a few months ago and uses an optical sensor.

The Galaxy A55 also uses an optical sensor, and we noticed a slowdown in the unlocking process in our review. I have not noticed such problems where the sensor does not respond to commands. Also, the fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S24 Ultra has worked flawlessly since launch with no lag.

Users are complaining about these issues after upgrading from 6.0 to 6.1, which could suggest that the software package that was released in “final” form last week still has unresolved issues. Samsung could fix the issue of slower charging and delayed fingerprint sensors with a possible quick update.

The good news is that moving to OneUI 6.1 has a clear advantage for Samsung phone users. The 6.0 update had disabled certain protections for the OLED screens of the devices, which could lead to image retention or burn-in in areas where graphic elements are constantly displayed, such as the status one at the top, or that of the navigation buttons on the side down. The update to 6.1 should “clean” the image retention but also prevent its appearance in the future.
