Jaqueline Cristian, metamorphosed, is at the best WTA 1000 result: “It has changed since I died in training”

In the qualifiers, Jaqueline Cristian managed to overcome McCartney Kessler and Daria Saviile, and then, in the first round, to beat Frech (51 WTA), after a fabulous streak of 11 consecutive games won.

After the extremely important success achieved in the second round, Jaqueline Cristian talked about the fantastic period she is going through and how her new coach managed to make her become much better on the court.

The Romanian explained that now she feels that she is giving her life on the field in training and has high expectations from the upcoming games.

“I went in a bit emotional and again I couldn’t find the court too easily in the first set. There were also many things that happened, it was difficult, with the people from the back match, the noise was really terrible, but please, I couldn’t I’m complaining about this thing because she was complaining at the same time and I said, OK, we’re both in this situation, so I have to manage it somehow.

After a rough start to the match, Jaq revved the engines in sets 2 and 3 as he dropped just two more games.

“After that in the second set I think I was positive, I had a better attitude, I believed in myself more, I said I have nothing to lose and I said I just have to be happy because that’s what I won three matches, to get to the second round and play, that’s why I’m here and after that I slowly started to gather my game, to make my game plan, I’m not interested anymore I didn’t even hear the back stand, so it was OK.

The collaboration with the Spaniard Javier Marti changed Jaq extremely much, who now looks at tennis with different eyes.

“I’m very happy, but I tell you honestly, the way I’ve been training lately, since I changed my coach and the vision he has on the game and the way I feel on the field, since I’m actually dying in practice, when I play with these girls, it seems to me that I have room to give. I mean, even today I was thinking that in some rallies I had a harder time against the coach in practice than with her, and I said, Jaq, you have to sit and be realistic

In the end, if you can do it in training, you can do it in the match, that’s clear. But normally I’m very happy, I still don’t feel like I’m 100 percent with how I’m playing in training and that’s why I don’t really want to put expectations on myself or anything. However, it is a good feeling that I have, that I follow and that gives me a lot of confidence, because in the end, yes, the matches won help you a lot, but the routine and training you have behind you are the basis.

I don’t want to think about setting limits, I take it day by day. Tomorrow I have a day off and I can go to training again. It’s good, I have a good feeling”, said Cristian, for GSP, after qualifying for the next round in Madrid.
