The 33-year-old Austrian broke both legs during training for the downhill stage of the World Cup in Canada.

Max Franz was supposed to make his debut in the new season on November 26, in the scheduled downhill test at Lake Louise, the place where debuted in the Alpine Skiing World Cupin 2009.

Max Franz fell extremely badly and, after the serious injury he suffered, will miss the rest of the World Cup season, as the press in Austria wrote on Monday morning.

The athlete received first aid on the spot, as it was clear that the problems were big.

Max Franz was flown to the hospital, where the diagnosis was grim: an open fracture in his left leg and an even worse fracture in his right leg, in addition to the cut on his arm.

Having emergency surgery, Franz upended the plans of Austria, who were hoping Max would hit big-time form during the World Cup.

“For our team, it’s a huge loss! I wish Max a quick recovery,” said sporting director Marko Pfeifer.
