The teams participating in EURO 2024 will be 26 players each

Members of the UEFA Executive Committee decided on Friday to increase from 23 to 26 the number of players on the lists for EURO 2024.

This decision was in line with the recommendations of the UEFA National Team Competitions Committee, which voted in favor of this solution on 22 April.

All players will be able to appear on the match sheet and on the bench.

Philippe Diallo, president of the commission and member of the UEFA Executive Committee, spoke in favor of keeping the squad of 23 players, which was the preference of French coach Didier Deschamps.

But in the case of a change to 26, Deschamps wanted all players to be able to be used in every match, without having to leave any in the stands. Regarding this aspect, France can be satisfied, writes News.ro.

UEFA allowed each team to enter 26 footballers in the previous edition of the European Championship, held in 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the same number of players appearing in the squads of the participants in the World Cup in 2022, which took place in Qatar.
