A spectacular shooting star shower will take place on Easter itself. The meteorites come from Halley’s Comet

A spectacular phenomenon will take place this very Easter weekend: the Eta Aquariide meteor shower. Experts anticipate a better show than in recent years, reports CNN.

According to experts, the Eta meteor shower–Aquaride will peak on May 5 or 6 and can be seen in good conditions, being quite warm outside at night. Also, the Moon, in its New Moon phase, will only be 6% illuminated.

The Eta Aquariid stream is often considered the best meteor shower of the year for the Southern Hemisphere, where 20 to 40 meteors can be seen every hour, or perhaps even more, according to EarthSky. In the Northern Hemisphere, people can see between 10 and 20 meteors before dawn.

The meteorites come from Halley’s Comet

One interesting thing is that these meteorites come from Halley’s Comet. Earth crosses the comet’s orbital path every spring between April and May, and tiny grains of rock and dust shed from the comet strike our planet’s atmosphere and create a spectacular spectacle in the night sky. Halley’s Comet was last visible in Earth’s night sky in 1986 and will return in 2061 as it travels a 76-year orbit around the Sun.

The meteors appear to originate in the northeastern part of the constellation Aquarius, which contributes to the current’s name.

Experts also offered some tips to better observe the meteor shower. If you live in urban areas the chances of seeing them are less, so it is recommended to go outside the cities. You can take a chair or a blanket with you to sit comfortably while enjoying the show.

At the same time, it is recommended that you do not look at your phone for about 30 minutes before looking at the sky, so that your eyes can adapt to the darkness. This way you will have more chances to see shooting stars,
