I confess that I was wondering when the time would come again to write about malware. Things have been pretty decent lately, but today we learn of the existence of one his fake updatesChromewhich can empty your cards.

We’re talking about a Trojan posing as a Chrome update that can drain the cards of an Android phone owner. The name of this malware is “Brokewell“, appropriate because it leaves you…broke. It pretends to be a classic app on your phone, but then it starts collecting personal data and allows it to take control of your device.

It can spy on users and access their banking applications. Dutch security firm ThreatFabric says the banking industry and card users are at great risk. The Trojan is evolving rapidly, and new commands are added daily. It uses a fake Chrome update that looks real and easily fools users.

The overlay technique is applied here: a fake window is placed over the targeted application, such as the banking one, and then your login information, password and user are taken. All your screen touches are then retained, as well as the information on the screen. Any update for Chrome from a source other than the Google Play Store should be ignored.
