The parent company of the Mega Image and Profi supermarket chains in Romania, Ahold Delhaize, announces, on Wednesday, in a statement sent to StartupCafe.ro, the launch of a technology hub in Bucharest, for which “it aims to attract over 250 specialists in technological field”.

The tech hub from Bucharest, named AD/01aims to develop “innovations in customer experience and services for the European brands that are part of the Ahold Delhaize group,” the Dutch-Belgian company said.

Thus, the AD/01 hub “will play a pivotal role” in strengthening the Ahold Delhaize group as part of the digital, data and technology ecosystem. Teams in the new technology hub will be involved in a “wide range of projects, from web and application development, up to support and initiation of strategic projects in the fields of eCommerce, Infra, Data, Loyalty, Core Retail and more,” the company stated.

Wouter Kolk, CEO Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia:

“All our local brands have one mission and one promise to customers: to provide the best shopping experience. That’s why we’re also focusing all our efforts in the technology area, so that we can offer flawless digital experiences, whether it’s the areas in our stores or everything we have beyond the stores. As our customers’ needs evolve, so do new challenges, which is why we’re now releasing AD/01. This technology hub will bring together the best IT&C specialists to develop innovations that serve today’s and tomorrow’s consumers across all our European brands. Thus, we chose to invest further on the Romanian market, where we already have a solid presence through our local brand, Mega Image”.

Mircea Moga, CEO of Mega Image:

“We are glad that Romania was chosen for the development of the new technological hub and we enthusiastically welcome the whole team to our side, in the Ahold Delhaize family. We will continue to make a significant difference by what we offer our customers every day when they shop, in our stores or in the online supermarket: local, fresh and healthy produce from local producers, a range of quality own brands at good everyday prices and offers that best meet customer needs”.

AD/01 is looking for technology engineers, and the first employees are already joining the local team, and according to the plan, in the coming years the team will expand by 250 professionals. “The recruitment processes focus on the Romanian market, which already has a base of specialists in the technological field, recognized at the European level” – believes the Dutch-Belgian company.

Headquartered in Zaandam, the Netherlands, Ahold Delhaize is listed on the Euronext Amsterdam and Brussels stock exchanges, and its American depositary receipts are traded on the US over-the-counter market and quoted on the international OTCQX market.

Founded in 1995, Mega Image is one of the largest supermarket chains in Romania with a network that currently includes 975 stores in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Constanta, Ploiesti, Brasov, Oradea, Timișoara, Bacău, Sibiu and other cities in the country, under the Mega Image and Shop&Go brands. Mega Image aims to offer consumers, every day, quality services and a range of nutritious, healthy and safe products at affordable prices. Mega Image is part of the Ahold Delhaize Group.
