“I, what I want first and foremost is a European normality. We are still struggling to find that political state that would create a normality in Romania. The way with populism, the way with which we have to go to Brussels, to beat the masses with our fists to get certain things or to make ourselves heard, or to hold a rally in front of the Commission, the Council, does not represent anyone and does not represent a people like Romania. Politicians, those who represent you (…) must be more serious, more united, and the democratic forces have understood, after these 30 or so years of democracy, that there must be a united voice outside of Romania, especially inside the EU where until now we have been on the defensive for too long. We always went to the lessons unprepared, without knowing very clearly what we wanted, and then we all tried to fix what we alone assumed and signed in front of the Commission. This must stop, the political disputes, between the democratic forces, must take place on Romanian territory”, says Marcel Ciolacu.

He shows that Romania has a consolidated justice system, a consolidated democracy and must enter a construction zone.

“PNRR, whenever it is talked about, I am asked about the state of financing, funds, because they bring us a higher standard of living, but the most important component of PNRR are the reforms. Romania’s economic sustainability, at this moment, is based on European funds. When one screams on the street, or on TV or in Parliament, we must answer them very clearly that Romania will collapse if it no longer has access to European funds and if it does not implement EU reforms. We all wanted a country like outside, I am one of those who upon accession and after the revolution the most important thing was to go outside. To close the full circle, nothing can be implemented in Romania without the most stable structure of the Romanian administration, the local administration. Without mayors, CJ presidents, who are stable for 4 years. You have seen that the prime ministers change one a year, I am the tenth in this series of prime ministers, and I will change as soon as possible, because the mandate is until the end of the year”, adds the PSD leader.

According to him, “the stability instead remained with the mayors”.

“They are the main partners of Romanians, they develop communities. The government must come up with strategies, with reforms and with a much easier implementation that respects the EU’s very clear transparency rules”, concludes Ciolacu.
