The castle unknown to Romanians, but appreciated by foreigners

Our country hides fairytale places that few know about. In Transylvania we come across a real architectural gem that has made its name abroad. The Americans were pleasantly impressed by the Banffy Castle in Bonțida commune.

The castle in Transylvania, over 600 years old

A real monument that was one step away from disappearing in the Second World War. Later, Petru Groza and Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej’s communists gave him bad thoughts. However, Banffy Castle has withstood the challenges of time, and after being restored it delights those who pass its threshold.

Located in the heart of Transylvania, in the commune of Bonțida, Banffy Castle is the depository of years of history and managed to stand during the world conflagration, but also after, during the communist horrors. Not long ago, on the Open Doors Day, the Castle opened its doors to visitors.

Banffy Castle, a real architectural gem

The Versailles of Transylvania, as it is also called in the local culture, the Banffy Castle left hundreds of tourists speechless who visited the wonders in the heart of Transylvania. Among the visitors was Karen, a tourist from overseas and countries, precisely from the United States.

The young tourist who just came from across the ocean confessed that in the United States she has nowhere to see such architectural jewels. The castle has gathered more than six centuries of history, the sources write that, somewhere around the year 1400, the construction of the famous vestige began. In addition to the superb recreation area, tourists can also learn the story of the family that lived in the palace.

Transylvania impressed the tourists

“We don’t have anything like this, this old, in the US. Also, to hear Hungarians and Romanians in a festival is very important to see. Yes, it’s a good family atmosphere on this beautiful day,” revealed the tourist. The price of a ticket is symbolic. Five lei for children and ten lei for adults.

“I heard that there are open days and I came with the children for a picnic. There is sun, greenery, and fresh air. It’s very cool. It’s nice to be outside with the children, with the family”, said another young woman.
