Tribuna, the oldest newspaper in Sibiu and one of the longest-running in Romania, has a new main associate: Sibiu News SRL, announces Council Tower.

The newspaper that announced that it turned 140 years old in the middle of last month was bought by Sibiu News SRL, following negotiations concluded these days with the representatives of the former Atlassib holding, owned by the Carabulea family. 99.5% of the shares of the newspaper were owned by the Carabulea family, the rest being divided between former and current employees of the newspaper.

Sibiu News SRL, the new publishing company of the only daily newspaper from Sibiu that still appears in print, was registered with the Trade Register on April 26, 2024 and has four associates: Claudiu Vasile Gavrea (19%), Claudiu-Andrei Gavrea (14%) and Mircea-Gheorghe Mihăilă (34%). The fourth partner is a legal entity, Terensib SRL, with a 33% share in profits and losses.

Claudiu Gavrea is the only name among the associates that is related to the mass media, he managed the Antena 1 Sibiu television station several years ago. “Tribuna is a traditional brand and I want it to be revitalized and become a newspaper of the people of Sibiu again. It will also appear in print, we will keep all the subscriptions”, said Claudiu Gavrea for Turnul Sfatului.

The businessman Ilie Carabulea was definitively sentenced to five years in prison in the ASF-Carpatica case, in 2017. Dan Radu Rusanu, former president of the Financial Supervisory Authority, was acquitted in the same case.

DNA prosecutors accused the two of being part of an organized criminal group whose purpose was to protect the Carpatica Asig company.

The acquisition of the Tribuna newspaper takes place a few days before the start of the electoral campaign for the local and European parliamentary elections. “It is not directly related to the election year”, comments Claudiu Gavrea on the moment of the transaction.
