Ethics of the Metaverse, debated at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest

Virtual reality occupies more and more space in our lives, for all of us. There are no shortage of pitfalls, responsibilities are sometimes difficult to define and reflection on digital education and its direction is required. As well as an analysis of ethics in this field. That is why the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest proposes a conference that will provide answers and raise new questions regarding the nature of virtual reality. Daniel Raffini, postdoctoral student at Sapienza Università di Roma, will give a lecture related to themes at the intersection between the metaphysics of virtual reality and the ethics of immersive technologies, on Tuesday, May 7, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., during the research seminar of the Department of Theoretical Philosophy in partnership with CELFIS – Center for Research in Logic, Philosophy and History of Science, University of Bucharest.

The conference takes place within the intensive hybrid program “Understanding causation in virtual reality”, organized by the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest through the CIVIS network. Entitled “The Ethics of Metaverse”, the conference will take place online and those interested can gain access by following the Facebook page “UniBuc Theoretical Philosophy Department Seminar”.

How do virtual reality, metaphysics and ethics come together? The answers will come from Daniel Raffini, in a discussion aimed at the cognitive sciences approach. Daniel Raffini is a researcher at the Computer, Automation and Management Engineering Department of the Sapienza University of Rome. In 2019, he obtained the title of doctor in Italian Studies at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy with a thesis on the reception of foreign literature in Italian magazines between the two wars. He is currently dealing with the relationship between literature and artificial intelligence.
