Tragedy on Easter night in a village in Teleorman. Two children were left without a father after their house burned to the ground

In a tragic incident, in Băbăita commune in Teleorman county, two children between the ages of 7 and 9 became fatherless as a result of a fire that destroyed their home.

Children orphaned by a fire

The fire allegedly broke out last night around 03:00 in the morning in Băbaita commune, and the possible cause of the fire in which one person died was a cigarette, according to witnesses in the area. Firefighters intervened with two fire trucks, and the flames were extinguished in about an hour.

“I’m actually in shock! So they say, that in that small kitchen they found him. He was drunk, he may have fallen asleep with a cigarette in his hand…Who knows”one of the neighbors told Fanatik.

Fortunately, the mother and the two children had been away visiting relatives for a week and escaped unharmed, but their father died as a result of the tragedy. The girl is 8-9 years old and the boy would be 6-7 years old.

In this house the family used to live together with their grandmother, aunt and uncle, and they are now facing not only the loss of their father, but also the lack of shelter and financial means.

Community humanitarian appeal

At this difficult moment, a humanitarian appeal is launched to the community to help these children left without material and emotional support.

“These children never had a good financial situation, but now they are also left on the streets, without clothes, without money and without the man who brought an income to the house. (…)

Please with all my heart, who wants to help with 1 leu or with clothes for them, or with food, let’s do something good for these children who don’t even have money to bury their father properly! Please share so that as many people as possible can see, maybe we can at least get them a room where they can sleep”wrote a local woman on Facebook, appealing to the community.

The woman also left a bank account where people can make donations to help the grieving family. The account made available is this: RO44INGB0000999911235823, with the name Denisa Nicoleta Aldea. “I will personally collect the money”the woman wrote at the end.

Also, the mayor of Băbăita commune, Stelea Vârtopeanu, appealed to the community through a message posted on social networks and announced that the festivities organized on the occasion of the Easter holiday will be cancelled.

“Announcement – Last night around 3 a.m. a tragedy occurred in the village of Băbaita; Stalitu’s house burned and the younger boy – Marian – died. We sympathize with this misfortune and cancel today’s show at 1 p.m. We will have other opportunities. We’re going to try to help this beleaguered family,” said the mayor Stelea Vârtopeanu.
