The trout from Tismana is known all over the country, and the smoked one is a real delicacy, and customers come and buy directly from the source or wait for orders by courier.

“Trout sells best before the Christmas, New Year’s, but also Easter and Christmas holidays, especially since it’s the release of the fish. We sell the production directly from the trout. We trained our customers who come and get the trout from here, because we don’t give them growth hormones. People see exactly how we raise them. The price of a kilogram of fresh trout is 32 lei, and the smoked one 100 lei”, says Mrs. Otilia.

The star product remains the smoked trout that reaches the whole country. “I can’t say that I have a special recipe for smoked trout. It counts for a lot of smoking, and by the time I get it I’ve thrown about four. I only use trout, salt and cherry or plum wood. I have many clients from Târgu-Jiu, Craiova, Bucharest but also from other areas of Gorj and the country. From three kilos of fresh trout, I take out 1 kilo of smoked trout. Trout of 5-600 grams is good for frying, and we smoke what passes over it. I have a lot of tourist customers who came to visit Tismana, tried our trout and have been ordering from us continuously ever since. We smoke it, empty it and send it by courier anywhere in the country, but most go to Bucharest”, said Mrs. Otilia.

The people of Gorjeni also buy trout to give as attention to acquaintances on holidays or to relatives staying in the big cities of the country.
