Sadiq Khan, the incumbent mayor of London, obtained, on Saturday, a new mandate at the top of the administration of the British capital, achieving a better result than in the last election and consolidating a strong trend in favor of the Labor Party, expected to win the next parliamentary elections in big difference from the current conservative power, reports CNN and The Guardian.

Early results show a good result for the incumbent mayor, who looks set to secure a third term with a better score than the last election, a first in UK election history.

Sadiq Khan thus defeats his conservative opponent, Susan Hall, winning the British capital for the third time. Khan was elected mayor for the first time in 2016.

Sadiq Khan’s victory comes amid deepening discontent with the Conservative Party, which has been in power for almost 15 years – Labor has won a series of parliamentary and local by-elections in recent months.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is also threatened by a “rebellion” from the ranks of his own party if the result of the partial local elections will be disastrous. So far, however, Sunak seems to have managed to avoid a difficult outcome for himself, with the Tories, despite being soundly defeated in many of the elections, managing to claim a token victory in Tees Valley.
