Timisoara received its reputation as the “City of Flowers” 125 years ago

Timisoara received its reputation as the “City of Flowers” 125 years ago, when a grandiose exhibition was held here. It was then that the most beautiful park was created.

Towards the end of the 19th century, on the current location of the park, Wilhelm Mühle and Wenceslas Franz Niemitz, renowned landscape architects and growers of ornamental plants, laid the foundations of an extensive garden – the Royal Rose Garden of Timisoara. The roses of Timisoara were exported all over Europe, often to destinations such as Vienna or Budapest.

During the First World War, the park was completely destroyed, becoming only a place where cavalry horses grazed. In the Second World War the park is destroyed again. After the war, the rosary was rehabilitated, the missing varieties being replaced by specimens from own production or imported specimens.
