“For the safety of children: Children must remain seated at the table during the entire visit to the restaurant. Running between tables and in the restaurant area poses a risk of injury, including trips, falls and collisions with furniture and other customers,” reads the restaurant’s announcement, which has gone viral on social media.

At the same time, the announcement also refers to “respect for the staff” and “for other guests”, noting, at the same time, that the little ones can “disrupt the dining experience” of other customers.

The restaurant’s announcement sparked controversy online, writes Adevarul.ro.

“These people should go to Spain in restaurants and take their example. There the children even run on the tables and everyone laughs and has fun without commenting on anything,” commented a user on Facebook. “I don’t have children, but the approach “children must remain seated at the table for the entire duration of the visit” seems inappropriate to me. They still had to say with their hands behind their backs and not speak without being asked. I don’t resonate with that kind of approach,” another person added.

“It’s a regulation, not just a simple recommendation”

Contacted by the source cited to explain the poster, the local manager Sera Eden said it was “an internal order regulation and not just a simple recommendation”.

“There are three big reasons why we imposed this regulation. First of all, for the protection and safety of the little ones. Our restaurant is very spacious, decorated with many plants, we have a lot of greenery, it’s a real garden, it’s like a park with us. Children are curious, attracted, want to discover, play. It is normal, of course, they are children. But if they leave their parents, they can get lost,” he explained.

He says that these rules actually try to prevent accidents. “Being a very crowded space, my colleagues no longer have distributive attention. They can’t always be attentive to tables, customers, children. They walk between tables with trays of food and drinks for customers and accidents can happen. I can get kids into my classmates, I can knock over the trays.. but think what can happen if a child burns themselves with food or a hot drink. There are situations that we want to keep under control”.

He then said that “those who do not follow the rules are politely asked to leave the premises”.

“Obviously, that customer can come to us again, we are waiting for him and welcome him with joy next time. We give them a nice note, apologize for the inconvenience and wait for them another time, with or without children, but respecting these rules,” he continued.

On July 9, 2022, a similar message published on social media by the Jai Bistrot restaurant in Capital (Calea Griviței, no. 55) sparked vehement reactions and a controversy that divided public opinion into two camps.
