Give the fool power

“Give the fool power and you’ll see what he can do with it”, is a Romanian saying that each of us remembers at least once a day.

When you go to the counter and the guy behind him will do absolutely nothing to help you. On the contrary.

When you watch the news. Or talk shows. Possibly political.

When you’re waiting to exit a non-priority street and no one will stand still for 10 seconds maximum in their rush to nothing.

When Ciolacu and Ciucă leave a coalition meeting and answer journalists’ questions.

When you read the bulletin board in the block.

When you need information from a budget. Almost any budget.

I prepared ahead of time a map of the candidates for mayor from the localities in the county. So that a citizen from Vurpăr, for example, working on the Continental platform, can briefly find out who is running at his home. Because obviously he hasn’t changed his address and maybe he’s thinking of running home to vote. And to briefly see who is running for Roșia, Marpod and Nocrich, places from his childhood.

For that citizen from Vurpăr, I sent an email to the constituency electoral offices asking them to send us the list of candidates, to fill in the missing places, where certain parties avoided submitting their proposals. Because this is also a political secret for some. Of course, but I would have called him to change his mind, maybe. Or I would kidnap their children to convince them to withdraw their candidacy.

The mails from the electoral offices have started to return. Do you think they were of any help?

Give the fool power…

Most of them sent me in an absolute sictir to the locality web page. Of course, but it was extremely difficult to type a maximum of 8-10 names and surnames, to help the man.

Yes, I could take almost 64 sites in a row, I say almost, because not all town halls are in 2024 and still communicate by fax. But it would have taken me a whole day, and this was also the purpose of the emails sent to those who, theoretically, are put there to lend a helping hand.

Some, more importantly, gave me the direct link, without letting me rummage through the site because the vast majority do not have a direct link, let’s say “local elections 2024” on the main page, but have hidden some pdfs through folders like “local official monitor”, “local news” or “public information”.

Some, very, very few, simply sent me their names. Only one official called me, to tell me directly.

But others are downright scrawny. (From the list of synonyms: unscrupulous, vile, infamous, vile, vile, disgusting, I would refer more to vile and vile).

“Hello! The lists of candidates for mayor and local councilor for the city of Ocna Sibiului are displayed at the headquarters of the constituency electoral office no. 9 Ocna Sibiului, in a visible place and accessible to the public during opening hours”.

This answer is to be framed.

That’s all he can do.
