One gold, four silver and one bronze medal were obtained by Romanian students at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad, held these days in Varna, reports Agerpres.

The Minister of Education, Ligia Deca, welcomed, on Wednesday, the success of the Romanian students.

“Great news received last night from Bulgaria: a gold medal and first place with maximum score, four silver medals and one bronze for Romania, at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad 2024, held these days in Varna, with the participation of 22 teams! Deca wrote on Facebook.

The Minister congratulated the students who won medals at the Balkan Mathematics Olympiad: Vlad Titus Spătaru, International High School of Informatics Bucharest, gold medal and first place with the highest score; David-Andrei Anghel, Bucharest International Informatics High School, silver medal; Andrei Chiriţă from the “Tudor Vianu” National College of Informatics, Bucharest, silver medal; Pavel Ciurea, Bucharest International Informatics High School, silver medal; Aida Mitroi, Bucharest International Informatics High School, silver medal; Andrei Vila, Bucharest International Informatics High School, bronze medal.

The International Theoretical High School of Informatics Bucharest was founded in 1995 by Lumina Instituții de Vățământ and is a private educational institution.

The Romanian team was coordinated by university professor dr. Cătălin-Liviu Gherghe, dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, University of Bucharest (leader), and accompanied by professor Ovidiu Şontea from the National College of Informatics “Tudor Vianu” Bucharest (deputy).

“Gratitude to all those who support the performance in education!”, Ligia Deca also conveyed.

According to the Romanian Society of Mathematical Sciences, between April 27 and May 2, the 41st Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO 2024) will take place in Varna, Bulgaria. The competition was attended by 22 teams (participation record) from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, North Macedonia, Montenegro, the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Serbia (member countries), as well as teams from Algeria, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, France, Georgia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Great Britain (invited countries).
