The Russian drone arrived in Brăila, sent on purpose. The USA gave Romania the newest anti-drone system.

The Iranian Shahed-136 drone, also manufactured in Russia, had no business being so far from the front line.

It was 27 km from the border with Ukraine and had flown over 100 km.

But most importantly, defense-ua.com writes, during the Russian attack on Ukraine at that time, not a single Shahed drone was launched in the direction of the Odesa region.

So, there was no way he could simply wander to the Big Island of Brăila.

Following this challenging incident, Romania’s air defense received surprising help in the form of the US M-LIDS anti-drone system, which was deployed within the US 101st Airborne Division, deployed in the country.

According to the US Embassy in Romania, the first firings of this system took place at the Capu Midia range.

M-LIDS (Mobile-Low Integrated Defeat System) is the US military’s newest mass-produced anti-drone system.

It is a multi-role unit with its own AN/TPQ-50 radar, thermal imaging sensors, direction finder, electronic warfare and a 30mm XM914 autocannon.

So far, M-LIDS outside the US have only been seen in Kuwait.

Currently, the Pentagon plans to order 45 such systems in total, which should strengthen five divisions.

The appearance of M-LIDS in Romania was quite predictable, as there have been several drone incidents here.

If in 2023 it was still possible to believe that they were mere “missteps”, because then the main target of Russian attacks was the Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Danube, the latest events were categorized as intentional provocations.
