We celebrate Europe Day with the monumental Ninth Symphony, the one that carries to this day Ludwig van Beethoven’s declarations of freedom, equality and humanity, and from whose appearance they are fulfilled on May 7, 2024, two hundred years.

Undeniably related to the times in which it was written, revolutionary in the sound apparatus it contains – symphony orchestra, mixed choir and quartet of soloists – the score expands its expressive potential to the demands imposed by Friedrich Schiller’s “Ode to Joy” placed in the last movement, and resonates as powerfully and today, when it is universally perceived as a familiar landmark, as part of everyone’s consciousness.

Ninth Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven clothe in the beauty of her message on the evening of Thursday, May 9, 2024, from the Philharmonic, and is prefaced this time by a brilliant score of French Romanticism, Fantaisie brillante on themes from Carmen for flute and orchestra by François Borne.

This evening’s guests it’s a holiday Cristian Sandu (conductor), Mariana Bulicanu (soprano), Mihaela Ispan (mezzo soprano), Eusebiu Hutan (tenor), Ludovic Kendi (baritone) and flutist Cătălin Oprițoiu.

AUTHENTIC TANGO – SYMPHONIC CONCERT
Conductor: Hello Popa
Analia Selis – voice
Julián Caeiro – piano
Damián Foretic – bandoneon

Between 10 May and 8 June 2024, SELIS ANALYSIS and his guests from Argentina present the national tour to the Romanian public “AUTHENTIC TANGO”. In a beautiful artistic journey built between her native country (Argentina) and adopted country (Romania), the tour marks 20 years of artistic career in Romania and 10 years since Analia Selis dedicated her entire activity to tango, giving the public a series of projects designed around the most passionate musical genre.

In 2022, The Argentine Interministerial Committee awarded him the distinction of “Country Brand Ambassador” as a result of his contribution to the construction of the Argentine national identity abroad. The national tours “Do you like tango?”, “Symphonic Tango”, “ArgEnTango”, “Symphonic Piazzolla”, “Interbellic Symphonic” – are all a testimony of Analia Selis’ passion and dedication to tango music. The success of his projects was also translated into numerous invitations – received from the country or abroad – to sing with important ensembles or to participate in international festivals.

Accompanied by the symphonic orchestra of the Philharmonic, conducted by master Radu Popa, Analia Selis will celebrate with the public in Arad, on May 16, 2024, from 7 p.m. in the Hall of the Cultural Palace, as a trio, offering a repertoire that combines famous Argentine tangos – such as “El choclo”, “Nostalgias” or “Milonga de mis amores” – alongside Romanian interwar tango pieces, such as “Nunuțo”, “Ce faci asța sără tu ?”, “You do not know”.

Along with Analia Selis, two guests from Argentina will take the stage, highly appreciated in the world
tango: JULIÁN CAEIRO (piano and musical arrangements) and DAMIÁN FORETIC (bandoneon).
“From the music of my native country, Argentina, to that of my adopted country, Romania, my path continues in tango steps. In my projects from the past years, dedicated to Argentine tango, I started to include Romanian pieces as well. And so I had the immense joy of discovering the Romanian interwar tango. Music, lyrics and stories of an elegant era. I felt that this music has tremendous power and should be showcased in all its glory. I chose to carry forward the Romanian interwar tango, in all my concerts, either through a few pieces in the evening’s repertoire, or through concerts entirely dedicated to the genre. The “Tango Auténtico” tour brings to the Romanian public Argentine tango alongside Romanian interwar tango, with a new air, in an authentic vision of the most passionate musical genre. It is the gift I want to offer to the country and the people who adopted me”said ANALIA SELIS about her project.

TIMISOARA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL
“Remus Georgescu” Symphony Orchestra
Choir “Ion Românu” of the Banat Philharmonic conductor Iosif Todea
The academic choir of the Arad Philharmonic, conductor Robert Daniel Rădoiaș
Conductor: George Jackson
Soloists:
Bogdan Baciu – baritone
Ryszard Groblewski – viola

Time schedule:
Edward Elgar Concert Overture “In the South”, Op. 50
Ralph Vaughan Williams Flos Campi, for viola, chorus and orchestra
William Walton Cantata Belshazzar’s Feast

Belshazzar’s Feast or the story of the fall of Babylon, a classic theme from the Old Testament, becomes in the first part of the 20th century, in the version abridged for dramatic purposes, signed by William Walton on the text inspired by the Book of Daniel, Psalms and Revelation and made by the poet Osbert Sitwell, a true successor to the great English oratorios of the 19th century and a pinnacle of British choral music of the time.

A score of overwhelming impact, which makes use of an unconventional choral and orchestral cast, performed with astonishing vivacity, through a colorful vocal and instrumental writing, concludes the Friday evening, May 17, 2024, of the Timisoara Music Festival, a fascinating tableau of British music from the first half of the 20th century, which combines the stage performances of the “Ion Românu” Choir of the Banatul Philharmonic (conductor Iosif Todea), the Academic Choir of the Arad Philharmonic (conductor Robert Daniel Rădoiaș) and the “Remus Georgescu” Orchestra of the host philharmonic, an ensemble led from the conductor’s desk by George Jackson, the young music director of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra.

We are excited to be part of her absolute premiere on Romanian concert stages, an event that adds to its content two more landmarks of the 20th century symphonic repertoire: Flos campi, for viola, chorus and orchestra by Ralph Vaughan Williams (1925), an enigmatic and seductive work, inspired by the Book of Solomon’s songs from the Old Testament and concert overture “In the South”, op. 50 by Edward Elgar (1904). The soloists of this evening are the baritone Bogdan Baciu and the violist Ryszard Groblewski

It is also worth reminding that the Romanian premiere of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ work, Flos Campi, took place this spring in Arad, in the symphonic evening of March 14, 2024.
