During an extraordinary meeting of the Local Council, the approval documentation for the intervention works and the technical-economic indicators for the “urban mobility corridor in the historic center” were approved.

The project envisages a modernization of the historic center of Bistrița, which would have 15 wells with drinking water, artesian fountains, several places to relax and even a “water course” that will cross the Liviu Rebreanu Pedestrian Street.

“It is about resuming the motif of the Morii Canal, which historically passed through the current Liviu Rebreanu street and through the Central Square interpreted in a contemporary form. Neither the passers-by nor the terraces will be disturbed. There are several locations with water jets of one meter, one and a half meters and flowing on a wire, to reproduce the idea of a river”, tried to explain one of the designers, in an intervention in the meeting of the Local Council.

The area of green space increases from 5,769 square meters to more than 7,000, and the number of trees increases from 355 to 467. More than 2,000 square meters of bicycle paths and 58 bicycle parking spaces will also be installed.

Instead, the road surface decreases from 11,354 square meters to 6,955 square meters. Also, the number of parking spaces decreases by more than 100! Thus, of the 177 existing parking spaces on the streets involved in the project, only 70 remain.

An analysis of the technical project highlights the fact that 10 parking spaces disappear from Alexandru Vlahuță street, 50 parking spaces from the Central Square (most likely those around the Evangelical Church and Sugălete) and 45 parking spaces from Nicolae Titulescu street. There are 2-3 parking spaces here and there.

Despite this detail that will accentuate the problem of the lack of parking spaces in the area, already acute, only one local councilor brought up this topic, Cristian Munthiu (PNL), who asked for solutions for the disappearance of the 6 parking spaces dedicated to disabled people , without specifying, however, that 100 parking spaces disappear in total…

“It’s a very personal project, I would say, because I understood even before taking over my mandate that we need our own infrastructure to help us solve the problem of young people in the municipality of Bistrița”, declared, during the meeting, the mayor Ioan Turc.

Local Councilor Augusta Săsarman (PSD) stated that he does not understand how to solve the problem of young people in the municipality in this way.
