“We are in an atypical moment and I hope that Romania will overcome this stage. I am sure that we will get rid of those traitorous security guards and I will not name them now”, said Marian Vanghelie, quoted by News.ro.
“Part of the teachers from sector 5 came to me, I can say a number of several hundred, who asked me to run for what is happening first and foremost in education”, he added, specifying that what is happening in sector 5 schools “never happened”, not even before 1989.
He also stated that “almost 15 principals from sector 5 education, who wanted to come, undertook and are coming on the lists to six parties, to team up” with him and that he decided to run “only for the fact that something can change” and that sector 5, led until now by Cristian Popescu Piedone, is destroyed.
“The real leaders in the world, who made history and who succeeded in establishing strong states, did not succeed until they were in prison,” Vanghelie also declared.
Marian Vanghelie was sentenced in the first instance, in May 2021, to 11 years and 8 months in prison for abuse of office and bribery, but the decision was not final, and the trial is still being tried after 3 years.

It is about Adrian Vigheciu, general adviser to PMB from PSD (supported by PSD and PNL), Vlad Popescu Piedone, son of Cristian Popescu Piedone and deputy (supported by PUSL), Alexandru Dimitriu, former secretary of state at the Ministry of Justice (supported of USR), Lidia Vadim Tudor, daughter of former PRM politician Corneliu Vadim Tudor (supported by AUR) and Marian Vanghelie, former mayor of sector 5 in the period 2000-2015.
