A fake news about houses for 2,000 lei near Sibiu is blocking the activity of a town hall: “One thing is that they don’t understand, but they also accuse us of keeping them for ourselves”

--

There is a commune in Sibiu, which is constantly being written about on social networks as having cheap houses for sale. It would be about abandoned houses in Bruiu commune, which the town hall would sell for only 2-3,000.

The mayor of the commune, Emil Gherghel, says that the information is obviously false, but unfortunately many are fooled, call the town hall and can hardly be convinced that everything is fake news. People even accuse that the city hall employees keep the cheap houses for them.

In reality, a house in the village of Gherdeal costs 60,000 euros.

“We also lied on the town hall’s website. We called those numbers to try not to spread the word, we also tried to contact them on Facebook, but we couldn’t find them.

At the moment, in Gherdeal 90-95% of the houses have owners, there are about three or four of whom nothing is really known. What I can tell you is that the last house was sold for 60,000 euros, a real estate transaction in Gherdeal (…) With 2,000 lei you buy an animal, a cart horse. There are about 10-12 people who live there permanently. There are many owners from Bucharest who have bought and are renovating to turn them into holiday homes,” the mayor told the local publication Turnul Sfatului last year.

Here is the post from the town hall’s website: “Following the information that appeared in the public environment and on various social networks, the Town Hall of Bruiu Municipality wishes to inform you that in the village of Gherdeal as well as in the other villages belonging to it, there are no properties for sale at prices modest (2000 – 3000 lei).

The Municipality of Bruiu Municipality does not own real estate (houses) that are to be sold. The properties within the commune are the property of natural persons (Saxons or Romanians), and for the last properties put up for sale prices of at least 20,000 euros were requested.

Bruiu Commune City Hall does not have information about real estate for sale in its territory”.

But the truth does not matter because the false information has appeared again, and now the mayor declares that he is annoyed by the people who call and have the impression that something is being hidden from them.

“I saw that these news were distributed again and they started again with emails and phone calls. It bothers me, but if they call me, I answer and explain. It’s worse when he calls the town hall and keeps the people here from working. Now I don’t even understand that it is false information. One is that they don’t understand, but they also accuse us of keeping them to ourselves. They take us and ask us, “why aren’t the prices 3,000 lei?”. There are people who simply do not understand what is being said to them. They say that we want to keep them for ourselves, that’s why we tell them that it’s not about any house with 2,000 lei”, complains the mayor.
