The police there arrested Prince Paul of Romania until May 9, at the request of the Romanian authorities, information confirmed by the Minister of Justice, Alina Gorghiu.

A video recently published on the YouTube platform shows the moment when Prince Paul of Romania was detained. At the time the authorities descended, he was at a luxury resort in Malta with his family.

During a press conference, Benone Matei, head of the Romanian Police, detailed how Prince Paul was caught, emphasizing the close collaboration with the Maltese authorities. Prince Paul Phillipe did not resist at the time of arrest.

“There was an exchange of information with the Malta Police. Following the information provided by the Romanian police, the person you mentioned was located in a resort. He was later detained and will be referred to the court in Malta. The Romanian police located him and sent information in real time to the colleges in Malta”, said Benone-Marian Matei.

In December 2020, Prince Paul was sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in prison.

He was accused of collaborating with a gang of criminals between 2006 and 2013 to recover properties he claimed as heir to the Romanian royal family, including Snagov forest and Baneasa farm. In total, 18 people were convicted in that case.
