Driver from Child Protection, tried for influence peddling

The Dolj prosecutors have ordered the prosecution of a 58-year-old man, a driver within the DGASPC Dolj, accused of influence peddling. According to the law enforcement officers, the suspect allegedly asked a person for 5,500 euros, of which he received 4,500 euros. In exchange for the money, the man would have promised to intervene with the employees of the institution to expedite an application for the adoption of a minor.

Dolje prosecutors explained that the suspect received the money in three installments. He allegedly asked for 5,500 euros, of which he received 4,500.
“The prosecutor’s office attached to the Dolj Court is investigating a criminal case regarding the commission of the crime of influence peddling by a 58-year-old man, an employee of the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Dolj.

Following the investigations carried out in the case, it emerged that, between November and December 2023, a 58-year-old man, an employee of DGASPC Dolj as a driver, repeatedly claimed the total amount of 5,500 euros, of which he received, in three installments, the sum of 4,500 euros, claiming that he has influence over some officials within DGASPC Dolj, who have duties related to the urgent adoption of a minor, without health problems, in the protection system of this institution”, stated the investigators.

After the hearings, the prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Dolj Court ordered the detention of the man for 24 hours. On April 11, the man was taken to the Dolj Court with a proposal for preventive arrest. The court rejected the request of the prosecutors and ordered the arrest of the defendant at home.
On Friday, April 26, the investigators ordered the 58-year-old man to be sent to court. The file was registered on the roll of the Dolj Court and is to enter the preliminary chamber procedure.
Yesterday, the court ordered the replacement of the measure of house arrest with judicial control. The decision of the Dolj Court is not final and can be challenged by the defendant and prosecutors.
