Both parents and children look forward to the holidays, the moments when they can spend quality time with the family. But where can you go in Romania so that the little ones have some entertainment, and the adults a little relaxation? From dinosaur or adventure parks to bison sanctuaries, “dwarf” houses, waterparks with giant slides or zoos, catamaran rides or zip lines – these are some of the options you could consider for a family trip, especially since the May 1st and Easter mini-vacations are coming up.

In Sibiu and surroundings

Perhaps one of the most popular places in Transylvania for families with children is Porumbacu de Sus, a village located in Sibiu County at the base of Mount Negoiu in the Făgăraș Mountains where you have a collection of objectives that we suggest you visit, according to the platform.

  • Lut Castle, Zânelo ValleyR it has an architecture that copies fairy tales. The castle is built entirely from natural materials such as clay, straw and wood, making it one of the most Instagrammable places in the country. The best time to visit here is at the end of spring and of course summer which is the ideal season for outings and vacations. The Clay Castle is open daily, but at the moment you can only admire it from the outside, access to the houses is not allowed. This destination is suitable for you if you are visiting the area for a short time and want to impress the kids by showing them these houses and taking a walk while admiring the scenery. For us it was a wonderful outing for pictures and a little picnic in nature.
  • The Story of the Calendar urges you to “Enter the magical world of childhood” while visiting and admiring the colorful houses of various shapes and decorated in cheerful styles: Gingerbread House, Dragobete House, Mushroom House, Memories House, Story Oak House, etc. The houses are representative of the legends of the 12 months of the year and the traditions that accompany them. This destination is recommended for younger children, as it may not be of much interest to older children. Creative workshops, gastronomy or even chess are also organized.

If you get hungry, you can stop by Coliba Haiducului where you can taste a pizza on the hearth, a pie or other delicious dishes.

30 minutes away from Povestea Calendarului, close to Cârțișoara is Pastrăvăria Albota where you can dine surrounded by nature. There are also playgrounds for children and animals.

From the series of tourist attractions, which fall within the immediate perimeter of the town of Porumbacu de Sus, there is also the famous Bâlea Lac at a distance of approximately 17 km. An ideal stop in nature to enjoy the beauty of the landscape.

After visiting the above sights, do not hesitate to make a stop in the old center of Sibiu, especially if the weather is favorable and allows you to walk among the historic buildings and narrow streets of the city.

11 minutes from the center of Sibiu is the Astra Museum, the most important museum institution in Romania, it is located in the Dumbrava Sibiului nature reserve and is an open-air museum that allows you to walk among traditional Romanian peasant households, small wooden churches, die of water, wind and you can admire some animals with the children. You have 10 km of only good trails to traverse and explore.
