  • The project takes place on the territory of RBDD, Tulcea county, the selected natural islands R0164, R0109, R043, R099, located on the right bank of the Danube river at km 95, and in the menders cut from the Sfântu Gheorghe arm between km 20-25.

The Administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, as the contracting authority, awarded the contract “ SF+ PT + DTAC + Technical assistance for Works to improve the hydrological regime and sediment management of natural islands designated in RBDD within the project LIFE20 NAT/AT/000063 – LIFE WILDisland – Danube Wild Island Habitat Corridor”, by award notice to the simplified notice.

The value of the April 8 / 15, 2024 contract is 260,459 lei, the winning bidder being the “Danube Delta” National Research and Development Institute – INCDDD – Tulcea.

As shown on e-licitatie.ro, this purchase is necessary to improve the sediment regime, hydrology and conservation status in the natural islands of the sediment regime, hydrology and conservation status in the natural islands in the Lower Danube area.

About “Danube Delta” National Research and Development Institute

As shown on its official website, the “Danube Delta” Tulcea National Research and Development Institute, established in 1970, has as its main activity the carrying out of fundamental and applied research in the field of ecology and environmental protection, with the aim the foundation of management in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve and in other wetlands of national and international interest for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

As a result of the expertise offered and the contribution to local, regional and national research and development programs, INDD was nominated as:

  • Center of Excellence for Deltas and Wetlands
  • National Reference Center for Land Use and Fisheries Classes
  • Scientific advisor to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development for the implementation of the Natura 2000 network in Romania
  • Technological Information Center for the Danube Delta of the National Authority for Scientific Research

The relevance of the institute’s activity for the development issues of the local/regional/national and international environment is supported by the status of the Danube Delta as a protected area and by the international programs and conventions to which Romania has acceded.

INCDDD participates, as a partner in consortia, in projects financed by the European Commission within the Framework Programs (PC 4 – 1 project, FP 5 – 3 projects, FP 6 – 6 projects) as well as in projects financed by other programs and funds ( PHARE, SOCRATES, COST, LIFE).

The main beneficiaries of the research results carried out by INCDDD are:

  • Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development
  • National Administration of Romanian Waters
  • National Agency for Environmental Protection
  • National Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture
  • Administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve

  • SMEs.
