Doctors from Cluj gave six patients a chance at a normal life, by successfully performing six kidney transplants.

“Again, in the ICUTR bridge, on Palm Sunday, 6 more kidney transplants were performed in 48 hours, totaling 33 kidney transplants in 2024 and 2506 transplants since the establishment of the Transplant Center in Cluj-Napoca. The kidney transplant marathon was possible thanks to the transplant teams: the operative team coordinated by Prof. Dr. Elec Florin; Ass. Univ. Dr. Suciu Mihai, Dr. Pop Dan, Dr. Dan Enache, the sampling teams: Dr. Moisoiu Tudor, Dr. Corb Doria, Dr. Tomuță Andrei, the intensive therapy team: coordinated by Dr. Șimon Robert, the nephrology team: Dr. Elec Alina, Dr. Muntean Adriana, Dr. Georgeta Horgiac and the immunology laboratory team: Dr. Loga Luminița, Dr. Timoce Raluca, Dr. Chiorean Alin, together with the nurses of the operating room, intensive care, immunology laboratory, nurses and stretcher bearers “, the representatives of the Clinical Institute of Urology and Renal Transplant Cluj sent.

According to ICUTR representatives, there were three adult donors, aged between 36 and 54, from the centers in Bistrița, Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu.

“The transplant team of ICUTR thanks the relatives of the donors for the strength to overcome the suffering caused by the death of their loved ones and to accept the donation as a deeply humanitarian gesture. Thanks to their gesture, six patients from all over the country received a new chance at life: Bihor, Suceava, Caraș-Severin, Arad and Brașov, aged between 36 and 54, who had been undergoing dialysis for 1-7 years. We must mention that all these efforts are being made under very difficult conditions given the situation of the building in which ICUTR operates. Although ICUTR remains the national leader in kidney transplantation, the Cluj-Napoca Integrated Transplant Center investment objective remains a potential investment on a waiting list, a situation that we hope will change as soon as possible. We hope that after the investment of 500 million euros for a new Fundeni Institute, the Ministry of Health will find a source of funding for the investment in the Integrated Transplant Center, because as the Ministry of Health recognized ICUTR is a strategic medical unit”, they also transmitted ICUTR representatives.
