Historical situation for Romania. The announcement everyone was waiting for came

The President of the Commission for Industry, Research and Energy in the European Parliament, Cristian Bușoi, says that Romania will reach zero imports from Russia. Busoi said that our country will import gas from the European Union.

Cristian Buşoi: We want and will succeed in having zero imports from Russia

Cristian Bușoi, the president of the Commission for Industry, Research and Energy of the European Parliament, addressed the topic of reducing gas imports from Russia to zero during the “Restart & Repower Romania – New energy and development strategy” summit.

Bușoi mentioned that the potential of gas and the Black Sea is being discussed, including the Neptun Deep project. He emphasized that there is a possibility for Romania to become an electricity exporter. He argued that thanks to all the planned projects, such as units 3 and 4 at Cernavodă, modular reactors and renewable energy investments supported by the European Commission through the Modernization Fund and the PNRR project, together with other co-generation investments with gas, theoretically, Romania could produce a considerable amount of electricity. Thus, the country could become an exporter of energy security.

“Of course, there is a lot of work and a consistent presence and dialogue with the ecosystem in Brussels, not only the European Parliament – the Commission, the European press, all of this can help so that the opportunities that Romania offers for energy security are better understood and to be accepted and supported.

We are talking about gas and the potential of the Black Sea, Neptun Deep, but we can also become an exporter of electricity, because with all the projects we have in mind, units 3 and 4 at Cernavodă, modular reactors, all this welcome fever of investments in renewables , with everything that can also be supported by the European Commission, through the Modernization Fund, the PNRR project, plus the other investments in gas co-generation will generate, at least theoretically today, a very important amount of electricity, which can transform Romania into an exporter of energy security.

The potential of the Black Sea, the gas from the Black Sea, produced much more ecologically, with duties and taxes inside the EU, with much higher environmental standards, I don’t want to generate any diplomatic incident, but if we look at North Africa, at Qatar, at Azerbaijan, we cannot put the environmental standards of Romgaz, of OMV Petrom and what will happen in Neptun Deep with the environmental standards of these areas.

In the end, obviously, through RePower EU, we want and will succeed in having zero imports from Russia, to diversify the sources of supply, but it is much better to take gas from within the European Union, even if gradually the consumption will decrease in the coming years and in the coming decades than to import it from outside the European Union”, said Cristian Buşoi.
