Locals demand the relocation of the animals elsewhere

Seven bears relocated from the area of the Sinaia resort in Prague were relocated to the Polovragi commune, from Gorj county. The animals wreaked havoc in people’s households and terrorized them. Locals are now calling for the bears to be relocated.

“Seven bears were relocated from Sinaia to Polovragi, at the proposal of the intervention team to the Forest Guard and with the agreement of the manager of hunting fund no. 69 named Olteț, from Gorj county, in July 2022”, said the mayor of Polovragi commune, Gheorghe Epure, who received an official response from the Environmental Guard.

The mayor of Polovragi asked the administrator of the Hunting Fund to relocate the bears brought from Sinaia away from the households of the Gorjes.

“I think the best solution is to relocate these specimens, because there is a danger of their aggression. The fact that they weren’t scared of firecrackers and that they weren’t scared of the presence of people led us to believe that they were relocated from other areas, because the bears in our habitat get scared and are not so bold. I asked for the bears to be relocated. Now that the response from the National Environmental Guard has come, I’m sure that the bears are among those brought from other areas”, said the villager from Polovragi.
