Drivers who break traffic rules need to be careful because the police are on their trail. Whether it’s speeders or those getting behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the thousands of police officers mobilized to monitor road traffic are now using state-of-the-art technology, including radar equipment and helicopters, to catch violators the law.

The police went out for traffic controls during this period

Police forces are ready to crack down on reckless drivers who endanger public road safety. Radar guns remain one of the police’s most important tools in catching speeders, being used effectively to detect speeding.

A recent incident highlighted the seriousness of the police’s actions in combating driving under the influence of prohibited substances. A young man was stopped and subjected to a thorough check, including the collection of biological samples, after behaving strangely at the wheel. The analysis of the evidence will determine whether he has consumed prohibited substances and will determine the legal action to be taken accordingly.

Autostrada Soarelui was one of the places where police stepped up their actions, catching several drivers breaking traffic rules in less than two hours. According to the statements of Bogdan Ghebaur, spokesperson of the Romanian Police, police forces are concentrated, especially during the holidays, to ensure the safety of road traffic.

“Those who climb under the influence of prohibited substances are unconscious. As always, during the holidays, the police deploy impressive forces, especially on Autostrada Soarelui to track down speeding drivers or those who get behind the wheel drunk or under the influence of prohibited substances. They will receive help from the air from helicopters that provide images and information in real time,” said the spokesperson of the Romanian Police.

Helicopters equipped with high-fidelity recording cameras are used to support aerial police operations by providing real-time images and information. These advanced technologies allow the police to monitor and act quickly on cases of drivers breaking traffic rules, and penalties will not be long in coming for those who do not comply.

Biological samples will be taken from drivers involved in accidents

Moreover, according to an order of the Ministry of Health, drivers involved in accidents can have their biological samples taken in various places. Among them will be hospitals with emergency departments, legal medicine institutions and mobile emergency service ambulances (SMURD), especially in special vehicles equipped with medical personnel.

These samples are used to determine the presence of alcohol or drugs in the system of the drivers concerned.

In addition, in each case in which biological samples are taken, a medical examination will be carried out from now on to assess the effects of the consumption of alcohol or psychoactive substances on the person concerned.

Previously, this medical examination was performed only at the request of the traffic police.
