Marius Moga came to Digi FM’s morning show with a team of talented Romanian students working on an ambitious project: building the first open-source Romanian satellite. The satellite will have two main purposes: monitoring forests in Romania to combat illegal deforestation and providing educational opportunities in the space field for Romanian students.

Adrian Dumitrescu, specialist in aerospace engineering, and Iulia Tincă, system engineer, are part of the team of 20 students passionate about space working on the project.

“We are very excited about this project”, said Marius Moga. “It is a unique opportunity to make Romania a better place and to inspire a new generation of young people to get involved in the space field.”

In addition to forest monitoring, the satellite will also provide educational opportunities for Romanian students. Students will be able to control the satellite from the ground and use the data collected to develop research projects and learn about space engineering.

The project needs 150,000-200,000 euros to be completed. People can donate money for the project by SMS to the number 8864 with the text “SATELLITE” starting on May 15, 2024. Donations can also be made directly on the campaign website: www.dacavremputem.rospin.org

The launch of the satellite is expected to take place within 1-2 years of raising the funds.
