“Our city has been allowed to develop unevenly without clear direction. Some are doing well, others are suffocated by the cost of living”, says Băltărețu, deputy from Cluj and candidate in the Cluj-Napoca City Hall elections.

“An economically healthy Cluj means that all its residents have, thanks to their job or business, a peaceful life: a home, a decent salary, savings. Then, it also means that they have access to quality public services, from infrastructure, sanitation, health and education, to the environment and officials who treat them with respect. This is far from the reality of Cluj today. Our city has been left to develop unevenly without clear direction. Some are doing well, others are suffocated by the cost of living”, says Băltărețu, deputy from Cluj and candidate in the Cluj-Napoca City Hall elections.

Present at the recent debate on Cluj’s Economy, Băltărețu presented his plan for the economic development of Cluj: “Increasing the tax base, while maintaining the current level of taxation and the degree of tax collection, through the digitization of the administration, in order to simplify the process of payment of local taxes and fees – these are the two directions through which I will bring more money to the City Hall. I’ll give you some examples: the automated collection of property tax, the efficiency and transparency of the parking space rental and payment system, and the implementation of a GIS system, which will also show us whether all properties are taxed correctly.

An entrepreneur by trade, the deputy from Cluj raised a new alarm signal regarding the percentage of investments in the city’s budget, which has not exceeded 35% in recent years. “We need both public and private investment. On the one hand, there is a need for the large infrastructure projects postponed for decades – the bypass belt with connecting roads, the metropolitan train and the cargo terminal – but also for the construction of new industrial parks and an exhibition center – conferences, which will bring new private investors”

“In the economy, things must be done efficiently, but especially on time. Today, our city is still struggling to build its road infrastructure, infrastructure whose time was 15-20 years ago, so that we can take full advantage of its economic advantages. While developed European cities are focusing on climate issues, neutrality in greenhouse gas emissions, smart city and artificial intelligence, Cluj is taking a step forward in urban development. If the City Hall continues the strategy of “renderings and canceled auctions” and does not move to the facts, we will remain in the past”, Băltărețu concluded at the end of the debate.
