A wounded bear set all the authorities in Alba Iulia on fire. Based on clear legislation, all state institutions are forced to guard a bush where a wounded bear took refuge. A real danger, due to the fact that it was not even 250 meters from a neighborhood of houses.
In these cases the situation is a complicated one, because it is not possible to intervene by force, unless the animal attacks and someone’s life is endangered.
It happened on Thursday, April 25, in Alba Iulia, on the edge of the Oarda neighborhood. More than 30 gendarmes, policemen, SMURD crews, police, animal police and hunters were present there.
The reason: a large bear, weighing approximately 300 kilograms, took refuge in a bush on the edge of the Oarda neighborhood.
Apparently the animal was hit by a truck during the night, jumped the highway fence and took refuge in a higher bush.
He was spotted by several highway workers, who also notified the authorities.
Alarm from RO Alert
The presence of the bear was publicly announced through an RO Alert message, around 9.45 am. alba24.ro reporters went to the scene to document the situation.
The first on the scene were the gendarmes and hunters from AJVPS Alba. All eyes were on an area of higher vegetation near the freeway fence.
Police officers from IPJ Alba were also present, as well as representatives from the Environmental Guard.
Who leads the working group
The law says that, in this case, the one who coordinates the work team is the mayor of the locality, the deputy mayor or an authorized representative of the mayor’s office.
In this case it was the deputy mayor Emil Popescu. Along with the state institutions, it must decide about the animal. But the bear’s condition must be assessed first.

At the scene, in half an hour, almost all state institutions appeared: from the Animal Police, to the SMURD firefighters. Everyone stood and looked at the bush where the bear was supposed to be.
There was no confirmation until that time. At the scene, the street up to the bush in question was full of cars from all the institutions in the city.
A dog confirmed the presence of the bear
At 11.30 a hunting dog was brought to the field. In less than five minutes, the dog tracked the bear and entered the bush. The dog was taken out shortly after barking near the animal and it reacted.
The bear was in the area expected by the authorities.
He was not intimidated by the maneuver ammunition of the gendarmes
The first plan was set in motion. While a hunter was ready with a rifle, the gendarmes on the opposite side tried to chase the bear from the bush.
They fired several maneuver rounds, but the animal did not react.
Apparently, he would have been in the area for a long time and would be used to the loud noises.
In the absence of a reaction from the animal, the state institutions had to look for another solution.
As a result, a veterinarian was called from Deva to tranquilize the animal. This, under the conditions in which the animal can be taken in the sight of the rifle.
On the spot, the gendarmes and all state institutions are obliged to stay and guard the animal.
Such a situation blocks gendarmerie, police and SMURD crews until the case is completed.
Around 1:30 p.m., the situation had not changed. The animal was still in the bush, and the authorities were monitoring the situation. While the intervention at the edge of the neighborhood was in progress, the presence of another animal was reported in a nearby area.
