Some areas of small industry in the municipality of Vaslui are turning into individual housing areas. Local councilors warned that after the bankruptcy of the big industry and the small industry seriously restricts its activity. Vasluiul does not have an industrial park, investors avoid the city, and this must alarm the local administration.

The Vaslui City Council unanimously approved the Zonal Urban Plan – “Changing the destination of a sub-area of small industry units, storage and services in the area of individual homes, Burebista Street”.

The land with a total area of 9.48 ha is located in the urban area of the municipality of Vaslui. Urban planning documentation aims at the systematization and regulation of an urban area, including landscaping, urban furniture, parking lots, fences, playgrounds, green spaces, providing utilities for all properties.

During the debates, Valentin Dragomir, PNL councilor, sounded the alarm regarding the restriction of the activity of small industry.

“After the big industry in the municipality of Vaslui was closed, the small industry is closing down. Let it be a problem for the future mayor and the City Council. The mayor, for three legislatures, has been talking about an industrial park. Nothing was done. But not through his fault, the mayor’s office or the Vaslui Local Council. Investors bypass Vasluiul! That infrastructure, local taxes, finance legislation is to blame, is a fact that represents a reason for concern”said Valentin Dragomir.

In the first ten months of last year, only five companies with foreign participation in the subscribed capital were registered in Vaslui county.

Between 1991 and 2022, 633 foreign companies were registered in Vaslui county, which means at the national level a percentage of only 0.21% of the total of foreign companies. The total value of foreign investments is 44,966,800 euros. Mehedinți, with 49.7 million euros, and Gorj, with 11.1 million euros, are among the top counties for foreign investments. At the opposite pole is the county of Timiș with investments of 2 billion euros.

The National Strategy and Forecast Commission published in January 2024 “Projection of the main economic and social indicators in territorial profile 2023 – 2027”.

At the end of this year, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) forecast for Vaslui County amounts to 15.3 billion lei. In the year 2027, official forecasts indicate a GDP of 19.3 billion lei for Vaslui County.

In the same year, the value of the gross domestic product for the other counties in the Northeast Region will be as follows: Bacău – 43.6 billion lei; Botoșani – 20.7 billion lei; Iasi – 77 billion lei; Neamt – 30.6 billion lei; Suceava – 39.1 billion lei.

The GDP is an indicator of the production activity at the level of the country or region, being a useful tool for measuring and comparing the economic level of development.
