Dozens of garbage bags were taken to the Targu Jiu City Hall today, as a sign of protest against the lack of reaction to the problems generated by the garbage dump, but also to the clandestine garbage dumps in the city. It is the first election campaign when the subject of waste management in the municipality, but also in the county, is brought to the fore. There is already a lot of evidence that in the northern part of the city people are being poisoned by the smell and are still getting bills. In addition, more and more are appearing document which shows how many irregularities there are with the landfill managed by Polaris Mediu SRL.
Julian Popescu, PNL president Târgu Jiu, candidate for the Targu Jiu mayoralty in the June 9 elections, and senator Ion iordache, candidate for the CJ Gorj presidency, coordinated the greening action in the Pandurușu area, where hundreds of bags were collected. Some of them were brought to the town hall, to show the mayor another side of the city.
“We wanted to raise an alarm signal to Mayor Romanescu, to prove to him that the city of Târgu Jiu is not just its own office and the roundabout with flowers in front of the town hall. The city of Târgu Jiu is invaded by garbage. I have reported this aspect several times, and the town hall did not take measures, did not green the area. Today, together with the PNL team, we collected garbage in the Pandurașu area, and what we left here today, in front of the City Hall, I showed them to see how the garbage smells when you have it on the window. It was only a very small portion of the garbage we collected and we are still working to collect as much garbage as possible from that area,” said Popescu. The bags remained in front of the town hall for a short time, after which they were also collected by the liberals.
Ion Iordache declared that there is little left and he will also clean the town hall: “We will leave the cleaning, there is little left and we will also clean the town hall. For now, let them stay barricaded there”.
“Part of them I exposed here, in front of the City Hall, as a message of protest against Mayor Romanescu’s lack of action. Then we took them back, because even in front of the City Hall he is not able to collect them”, added Popescu.
