The authorities issued a RO-ALERT message regarding the animal and warned people to stay indoors.
The bear was identified near the Sebeș – Turda highway, in a garden.
In the images transmitted by the gendarmes of Alba, it is observed that the bear moves with difficulty while trying to force the fence to get out.
The authorities suspect that he was hit by a car, right on the highway, but the hypothesis is not yet confirmed.
UPDATE: The intervention committee/team was formed. This is coordinated by the vice-mayor Emil Popescu.
The deputy mayor says that the bear was hit by a vehicle on Wednesday evening. The authorities are looking for the animal, in order to take the necessary measures, depending on its condition. The area is secured.
On the spot are representatives of the town hall, ISU, Gendarmerie.
UPDATE, 11:36 a.m: To find the animal, action is taken with the help of a hunting dog.
UPDATE, 11:43 a.m.: The gendarmerie crew acts to track down the animal. It would be in an area with shrubs, behind the garden near the highway.

UPDATE, 12:30 p.m.: Felix Bogdan Dragomir – the technical coordinator of AJVPS Alba says that it is a serious situation, with danger, considering that the animal is injured.
“We have a difficult situation. A bear hit on the A1 highway, between Oarda and Alba Iulia. The bear is injured. He was hit this morning, around 8.20, possibly by a truck, the car did not stop. I located it (on the bear – no).
We are here in the intervention team, with the police, the animal police, we who manage the hunting fund. We are trying to resolve the situation, according to Ordinance 81.
We are waiting for a qualified veterinarian to tranquilize the animal, if we can identify it. There is danger of an attack from this animal, it is a big bear, it is also injured.
If we can relocate him, we will. If his injuries and health require euthanasia, he will be euthanized.
The bear is 300 meters from the first inhabited house. It’s a pretty serious condition.
From the images, it would be about a specimen of 250-300 kilograms”, said Dragomir.
The presence of the bear in the bush area near the highway was confirmed after the action with the hunting dog.
More bears in the area
The Alba AJVPS representative confirmed that other bears were also observed in the area. Locals have reported the presence of at least one other bear.
The authorities are aware that these animals are near the municipality.
“In this area we have 5-6 specimens of bears, an atypical area for bears, right in the vicinity of the municipality of Alba Iulia”, said Felix Bogdan Dragomir.
UPDATE, 12:40 p.m: A new intervention by the gendarmes, with gunfire, to remove the bear from the area with bushes.
According to the legislation in force, the immediate intervention on bear specimens in the urban areas is carried out gradually, depending on the case:
- removal by various means
- pacification and resettlement
- extraction by euthanasia or shooting.
The intervention team is led by the mayor/deputy mayor and consists of a gendarme, a hunter and a veterinarian.
