A 19-year-old young man from Sibiu was caught red-handed trying to pay a bribe of 800 lei in order to pass the theory test of the driver’s test, First Deputy Prosecutor Mihaela Ruginosu announced on Wednesday, as the spokesperson of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Sibiu Court.
“On 25.04.2024, the prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Sibiu Court ordered the initiation of the criminal action and the taking of the preventive measure of judicial control against a 19-year-old young man from the municipality of Sibiu, for committing the crime of giving bribe, provided by art. 290 para. 1 Criminal Code, related to art. 6 of Law no. 78/2000,” reports the quoted source.
According to the prosecutors, on Wednesday, April 24, the defendant was caught in the act while offering the sum of 800 lei as a bribe to an officer from the Community Public Service for Driving Permits and Vehicle Registration (SPCRPCIV) Sibiu, with the aim of facilitate the passing of the theoretical test for obtaining the driver’s license.

During the criminal investigations, the prosecutor benefited from the support of police workers from the DGA – Sibiu County Anticorruption Service.
The prosecutors specify that the initiation of the criminal action is a stage of the criminal process regulated by the Code of Criminal Procedure, with the aim of creating the procedural framework for the administration of evidence, an activity that cannot under any circumstances defeat the principle of the presumption of innocence.
