Drivers in Romania are required to always have a reflective triangle with them. Otherwise, they risk being fined by the traffic police. A driver on the A1 highway, in Timiș, found himself in such a situation.

Drivers must always have a reflective triangle with them. Those who don’t follow the law risk a hefty fine. A driver found himself in such a situation on the A1 highway, in Timiş.

Drivers must comply with this obligation

However, he was downright surprised when the policeman did not fine him. Instead, the agent gave him his, on the condition that he return it. It happened yesterday, April 24, when the driver had to pull into the emergency lane of the A1 highway.

His car had broken down and the driver couldn’t even start the breakdowns as he also ran out of battery. The moment was observed by the policeman Kovacs Valer, followed by hundreds of thousands of Romanians on social networks.

He was on patrol at the time and stopped to check on the driver. The agent reminded him that, when he is stationed in the emergency lane, he has certain obligations. One such obligation is to mount a reflective triangle.

The driver tried for several minutes to find the reflective triangle, which he did not have. He expected to receive a fine. However, the policeman impressed him when he offered him the reflective triangle he had on his motorcycle, on the condition that he return it after his car is lifted by a platform.

The driver crossed himself and immediately thanked him for the gesture of kindness.

“I haven’t really met the police like you,” the driver reacted.

The clip was watched by thousands of people, and the agent’s followers congratulated him for his help.

“All my respect to you. You are a man with common sense, a big soul and with the 7 years at home”; “Much respect, you are a special person with a good soul!”, are just some of the comments.

The policeman later returned with more comments.

“Never forget to be people to people no matter what. I greet you all with respect. (…) I am convinced that that man will remember for the rest of his life, that he got stuck on the highway and a policeman, instead of fining him, helped him,” Kovacs Valer also wrote on Facebook.

What does the law say?

According to Romanian law, if a vehicle or a trailer is stuck on the side of the road and cannot be moved off it, the driver of the vehicle is obliged to activate the hazard lights and install the reflective triangles.
