A 56-year-old man from the municipality of Salonta accused of killing a man for a bicycle last year was sentenced, on Thursday, to 12 years and 8 months in prison and ordered to pay the victim’s family moral damages of 120,000 euros. It is about Kiss Sandor, arrested on July 25 last year, and accused of the death of a 41-year-old Salonta resident, Florian Vasile Gale, reported missing by his family and found dead near the new bicycle path in Salonta.
The judges of the Bihor Court have now sentenced the murderer to 12 years and 8 months in prison and forced him to pay the victim’s family moral damages of 120,000 euros and material damages of about 8,500 lei. In order to cover the payment of moral and material damages, the court ordered to maintain the seizure both of the 3,700 lei found in Kiss’s house, during the home search, and of his movable and immovable assets.
The sentence is not final, Kiss having the opportunity to challenge it at the Oradea Court of Appeal.
As he reported Bihor, the victim was reported missing on July 10, last year. On Florian Vasile Gale (Photo), the family had been looking for him for days, after he left home on the morning of July 5 and never returned. His body was found in the evening of July 22, near the new bicycle path in Salonta, in an area known by locals as “Szalmakert”, meaning the area of Salonta’s vineyards.
It bore traces of blows, as found by the forensic doctors who examined the body, which is why the Prosecutor’s Office at the Bihor Court opened an investigation into the case, for murder. The author was caught shortly. He was also a saloon-keeper, Kiss Sandor.
“From the means of evidence administered in the case, the following factual situation resulted: on July 5, 2023, between 3:58 p.m. and 4:18 p.m., while they were in the place called via Szalmakert in the municipality of Salonta, the suspect assaulted o the injured person. He hit him several times on the head with his fist and with a hard blunt body, causing a cranio-cerebral trauma with a fracture of the dome and base of the skull which later led to the victim’s death, after which, taking advantage of the victim’s condition impossibility to defend himself, stole his bicycle bearing the inscription Jumbo MTB, gray with blue in color”, it was stated in the press release sent by the Bihor Prosecutor’s Office on July 25, last year.
Kiss was placed under preventive arrest, a measure that is still in force today.
