The software based on artificial intelligence, for treating cancer, will be purchased for the “Sf. Apostle Andrew” Galati. The necessary funds were approved on Thursday, during the meeting of the Galati County Council. The software will be used in the Radiotherapy department of the hospital and will greatly facilitate the doctors’ activities.

“The patient will start the treatment much faster with the linear particle accelerator, and the doctor will have more time for the patients, the contouring part being taken over by this software. Everything for the good of the patients. That’s why we equip the Radiotherapy department with the latest technology. Thus, the software, based on artificial intelligence, takes over the doctor’s work of contouring the organs at risk, the software accomplishing in just 30 minutes the doctor’s work of several hours, and the time thus gained means even more patients who can be treated with the two accelerators linear from the Galati County Hospital. Practically, the software outlines the organs that should not be affected by radiotherapy procedures, so that only the tumor is irradiated”, said Costel Fotea, president of the Galaţi County Council.

The Department of Radiotherapy at the Emergency County Clinical Hospital “St. Apostol Andrei” from Galati has two linear particle accelerators. The Galati medical unit is a regional center for the treatment of cancer patients, patients from several counties being scheduled for radiotherapy sessions daily.
